Lugol’s Iodine (Lugol’s Solution) was developed by French physician Jean Guillaume Auguste Lugol as a solution of iodine and potassium iodide in water. It provides a readily absorbable source of iodine, an essential mineral required for the normal production of thyroid hormones, which support healthy metabolism, growth, and cognitive function.
Adequate iodine intake is important for maintaining normal thyroid function, particularly in individuals whose dietary intake may be insufficient. Common dietary sources of iodine include seafood, seaweed, dairy products, eggs, and iodized salt.
Lugol’s Iodine should be used only as directed. Excess iodine intake may not be appropriate for everyone, particularly individuals with thyroid disorders or those taking certain medications.
