What Is Maitake?
Maitake (Grifola frondosa), also known as Hen of the Woods, is an edible mushroom recognised for its distinctive clusters of overlapping, fan-shaped caps.
Traditionally enjoyed in Japanese cuisine, Maitake grows naturally around the base of hardwood trees and has a characteristic layered appearance.
Maitake contains naturally occurring polysaccharides, including beta-glucans with different molecular structures. These are among the compounds that distinguish Maitake from other mushroom species.
